DECLARATION

  We, the Members of the World Buddhist Sangha Council, meeting at the 4th International Congress at the Buddha’s Light Vihara, Bangkok, Thailand, from 8th to 10 January,1986, do solemnly and sincerely declare and affirm that:

(a) We will uphold and strengthen the Constitution of our organization in order to promote unity, solidarity and dignity of all the Members of the World Buddhist Sangha in particular and those of the Buddhist community in general;

(b) We will do our utmost to strive and work for the eradication of all sectarian   differences and issues and concentrate our effort towards the promotion of the   noble Teachings of the Buddha;

(c) In the light of the present unsettled world where there are wars and threats of wars with nuclear armaments threatening the annihilation of the human race,  and where brute force and inhuman action are going on everywhere owing to ideological and racial differences, we should coordinate all our peaceful activities and cooperate with other international religious, social and welfare   organizations to promote inter-religious and interracial harmony for world peace.
