Declaration

    The Buddhist Sangha from all over the World held the 9th General Conference of the World Buddhist Sangha Council at the city of Medan, Indonesia from 1st to 5th 2012 (2556 Buddhist era) to discuss the relevant issues in disseminating the Buddha Dhamma. We declare solemnly that:

1. We as Sangha leaders of the Buddhist community should expound the teachings of the Buddha for the benefits of all beings. The World Sangha belong to one family regardless of location, race, language and the different schools. We will study and practice and work together for the happiness and well- being of all living beings.

2. The basis of the life of the Sangha is the six harmonies namely: the harmony of the views, precepts, benefits, thinking, action and language. The Sangha should therefore uphold the six harmonies in order to establish a united Sangha for the benefit of promoting peace and teachings of the Buddha.

3. We as Sangha members from all over the world are deeply concerned about recent ethnic conflicts in certain parts of the world, which could escalate into conflicts of religions in the future if not addressed properly. Any escalation could be used by radicals to spread violence to other areas of the World. Therefore we urgently recommend all governments and institutions with Buddhist  cultural affiliation to abstain from any form of violence and dis crimination as a means to resolve existing conflicts, but to follow the Buddha’s way, which is love, compassion and humanitarian aid.

4. The suffering of all beings are boundless and so as our compassion. We vow to realize this forever. At the closing of the 9th General World Buddhist Sangha Council Conference, we have decided that we are not only shouldering the responsibility of keeping the Dhamma alive but also make it our commitment to turn the wheel of the Dhamma as long as we live.
